Emma Lister, Rehearsal Director

Born in Canada, Emma trained at the Royal Winnipeg Ballet School where she performed in Balanchine’s Serenade, Four Temperaments and Concerto Barroco, as well as Trois Gnossiennes, Seven Deadly Sins and Don Quixote. On graduating, she danced with The Royal Winnipeg Ballet in Swan Lake and in John Neumeier’s The Nutcracker.

On moving to England, Emma danced with the English National Ballet in several of their productions at the Royal Albert Hall, including The Sleeping Beauty, Swan Lake and Romeo and Juliet. She joined English Youth Ballet as principal dancer in 2004, and over the next ten years danced the lead roles in Coppélia, The Sleeping Beauty, The Nutcracker, Les Sylphides, Giselle and Swan Lake. Her varied freelance work has included principal roles in The National Ballet of Ireland’s The Nutcracker and Carmen and she was a guest principal with Anchorage Classical Ballet, Malta and Bermuda Civic Ballet dancing in The Nutcracker, Romeo & Juliet and Swan Lake Act II respectively.

Her rehearsal director experience includes London’s Icon Dance at The British Museum; The National Ballet of Ireland’s 2015 tour of Lost choreographed by Ludovic Ondiviela; Gandini Juggling’s pieces 8 Songs, meta and Smashed XL and extensive touring with their 4×4: Ephemeral Architectures, also choreographed by Ondiviela; and Hubert Essakow’s TERRA for The Print Room, which premiered in February 2016. Emma has also been artistic coordinator for the annual arts festival Baltic Art Form since 2015. She is co-director of a new performing arts company, Makeshift.

A certified Pilates Foundation instructor, Emma teaches at several studios and physiotherapy practices. She is currently studying at the Open University for a BA in Art History.
