primary schools

Through our programme children learn a range of skills through developing fine and large motor control, co-ordination and rhythm. Students thrive from the challenge presented to them to master new skills while their increased confidence supports them to achieve in new situations.

Among the subjects incorporated are Music, History, Geography, English and Irish. Teachers and Principals remark on how the workshops have aided in promoting positive behaviour, broaden student’s vocabulary and contributed to higher levels of self-esteem.

The programme comprises of ten workshops during the school year, alongside some video study and a performance element on the schools’ premises.  School groups also visit the company at DanceHouse in central Dublin. Here, students participate in their own dance classes in the state of the art dance studios, watch Ballet Ireland‘s dancers in their daily training and rehearsals, and get to meet with the dancers and choreographers. They also see the other work taking place in the building where they are able to witness the many diverse dance styles practised on a daily basis by practitioners from across the sector.

‘Stephen is giving weekly workshops to our first class children who look forward with enthusiasm to the weekly sessions. The class teachers are delighted with the programme which integrates with several aspects of the curriculum. We hope that Stephen will be available to offer our future first class children the same opportunity next year and beyond.

Pairic Clerkin, Principal, St Patrick’s

‘…the programme did more than just integrate with our curriculum. It has helped to promote positive behaviour among our pupils and has contributed to higher levels of self-esteem particularly among those pupils with Special Educational Need. The school community has been enriched having had the opportunity to work with the members of their team and having talked to the dancers I know that they felt that they also benefited immensely from the experience.’
