Ryoko Yagyu

Ryoko was born in Osaka, Japan. At the age of three, she began dancing at the Tsujimoto Yoshiko Ballet School. She continued studying at the Homura Tomoi Ballet School before completing her training at the Viennese Conservatory in Austria. During her training, she was invited to perform at the International Festival World Ballet Star in the Ukraine.

Performances with other companies include principal roles in La Sylphide, The Sleeping Beauty and Swan Lake with Vienna Festival Ballet. She has made guest appearances in principal roles with Irish National Youth Ballet and with Pasodos Dance Company in Mallorca. She has also worked with New English Ballet Theatre, London, performing in a mixed repertoire of new works, and Peter Schaufuss Ballet, dancing many soloist roles in Romeo and Juliet (Ashton). Ryoko also performed as a guest artist at the Ballet Festival of Indonesia, Surabaya.

Competition credits include 1st prize in Kobe Dance Junior Competition in 1999 as well as Senior Competition in 2003. She was also semi-finalist in Prix de Lausanne 2003 and finalist in Premio Roma 2005.

Ryoko has performed in Ballet Ireland’s productions of Romeo & Juliet, The Nutcracker, Swan Lake, Die Fledermaus, Giselle and Bold Moves. She was promoted to Principal Dancer in 2018.
